Treatment of dental veneers

Are you interested in feeling more confident, smiling more, or having better-looking teeth? Veneers are a great option for you. Many dental problems can be repaired with veneers, including chipped, damaged, stained, and discoloured teeth. Enhancing the size, colour, and shape of your teeth will help you feel more confident.

Would you benefit from dental veneers?

Regardless of how your teeth look now, dental veneers can transform their appearance. A dental implant closely resembles your natural teeth and is long-lasting, pleasant, and strong.

  • Improve your appearance – veneers are usually one of the more popular cosmetic treatment options due to their appearance and superiority over other restoration options
  • Enhance your bite function – they’re custom-made to fit your tooth shape and structure and make it easy for you to bite and chew
  • Improve your confidence – they completely restore your smile, boosting your self-esteem
  • Convenient – veneers are a more permanent and straightforward dental treatment

Dental veneers offer many benefits by providing additional features and design. Veneers can also be used to replace teeth that have been severely damaged and cannot be preserved or repaired.

What are Dental Veneers?

Veneers are used to repair teeth that are uneven, chipped, or damaged. They can be used instead of crowns if your tooth is healthy and sturdy. Porcelain or composite materials are used to construct them.

Plaster laminates, which are tooth-coloured shells, are used in veneer treatments to bind to the front of your teeth. A small portion of the front teeth bridge surface may be removed in order to prepare your teeth for porcelain veneers. Your front teeth may then be bonded with a thin piece of porcelain. Ceramic composite veneers are made by covering the tooth’s surface with layers of bonded ceramic composite.

You can enhance the appearance of your teeth with veneers as well as provide a natural look with them. Stain-resistant porcelain veneers are easy to apply, repair, and remove, as are composite veneers. It may only be necessary to reshape the natural tooth a little to accommodate veneers.

Porcelain Veneers vs Composite Veneers

There are two major types of dental veneers: porcelain veneers and composite veneers. Porcelain veneers are made of a thin layer of porcelain bonded to the front of the tooth, while composite veneers are made of glass ionomer cement and acrylic resin. The goal of both types of veneers is to improve the appearance of your teeth and create a more attractive smile. The two types of veneers are compared here:

The porcelain veneers typically last around 8-12 years on the tooth surface, making them more durable than composite veneers. Moreover, porcelain veneers can be installed quickly and easily without the need for interim fillings since they do not require drilling. They are, however, more expensive than composite veneers.

Composite Veneers

The cost of composite veneers is lower than porcelain veneers, but they last only around 5-7 years on the tooth surface. During installation, drilling is required, which can be a challenge for dentists. In contrast, composite veneers do not require temporary fillings, making the overall procedure quicker and easier.

Dental Veneers FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do veneers last?

As with most cosmetic dentistry procedures, the effects of your treatment will last much longer if you take good care of them.

Most dentists say porcelain veneers can last for up to 30 years when well cared for. The most common causes of premature failure are both trauma and tooth decay, so it is vital you do everything you can to protect and maintain your new veneers.

How often do I have to go to the dentist?

There is no one-size-fits-all dental treatment. Some people need to visit the dentist once or twice a year; others may need more visits. You are a unique individual, with a unique smile and unique needs when it comes to keeping your smile healthy.

How many veneers do I need?

When you come in for your consultation at our surgery in Hampstead, your dentist will assess which of your teeth may require veneers. However, it is usually recommended that you go for an even number in order to ensure a mirror image on each side.

Whilst porcelain veneers are very natural looking, they will still be much less flawed than a real tooth. Veneers in sets of two, four, eight, ten or twelve tend to give the best results.

Is there anything else I should know?

It is important to note that the veneers process is irreversible, so you should definitely think about all of your options before you go ahead with anything.

Since some enamel may be removed during the preparation, it is also possible that your teeth may become more sensitive to hot and cold food and drinks.

There is also a chance that your veneers could be unsuccessful and potentially fall off. Ensure you take good care of your veneers and other teeth to make them last as long as possible.
